Today is a day to remember those who truly served our nation...the sacrifice they paid and the scant honors they recive for it. It is a time to reflect ( in the wake of Canada's largest government corruption scandals) about those who served their nation and those who claim to. Frankly, in my mind there is no doubt who has served this nation' freedom and democratic institutions best and who deserves the gold lined federal pensions.....but justice must come another day...lest we "break faith" with the truly deserving...I hope our war dead can sleep with the effort we have shown to protect their aging comrades in arms and our nation from the enemy within.

Great post Bill. I saw Harper speak in Saskatoon on Thursday. One of his big moments was his description of how politicians and Canadians are quick to put on the poppy; but when it comes to passing the torch, they fail miserably. He was talking about the abuse our military and those who serve have suffered at the hands of successive Socialist governments. I was struck by how correct he was... how dare anyone say they care and that they "remember", yet they provide poverty level housing and old equipement or no equipment to the men and women out their who are carrying the torch. They send our people into danger zones, but don't adequately fund them. What a shame.

Just wanted to let you know: my blog readers and I have come to a decision - our counter to the Liberal movement to "wear black" and "wear red" on Fridays "until our troops come home", will be "Operation Green shirt/ Yellow ribbon".
On Fridays, to show our support for the troops AND their mission, we will wear green, and to show our hope for them to come home safe, soon, and victorious, we will also wear a yellow ribbon on our lapel or around our wrists.(pictures at my site soon) Please spread the word any way you can! Thanks in advance.

Do what I do; wear cammo every friday...it really brings the freaks out of the woodwork and it will be a good contrast to the commie drag queens in Black and red. ;-0
I have a CF woodlands cammo battle jacket that I wear when I go to any public gathering where I may encounter an “activist”...really puts them off to see a well groomed middle aged man in a 3 piece suit wearing a cammo battle jacket instead of an overcoat. ;-)
At the last place I contracted to (thank God I contract so I am above the petty organizational and personal politics of these places) there were a bunch of snotty cliquish office types who like to dabble in lib-left activism on week=ends by paying lip service to the latest vacuous lefty cause ...they wear their ribbons and spew their indoctrinated mantras...for me, working in this environment but not being effected by the petty office politics, was like a hungry wolverine landing in a chicken coop.
You should have seen the gossip e-mails about my Cammo dress and on "casual Fridays the outrage over my politically incorrect Tee-shirts with a number of slogans which mock Leftist stupidity. Fortunately the IT admin was working for/with me and we had access to all the email traffic from office computers as well as the content of hard drives as a matter of doing productivity studies and personal use of company computers (this office was bad..70% young idealist-left females yielded a 47% loss of productivity due to e-gossip and personal web surfing)..The IT manager put a "super-user" override password on all the company's computers [at my request] for the purposes of security of the company's patented intellectual property.
I had a good time irritating this clutch of lefty hens with non verbal non aggressive things like my cammo and stickers on my office, pictures of Bush on my office wall, anti-left tee-shirts etc. Nothing personal or confrontational ever passed between myself and the core clique of this lefty office clique. But you would have thought I had physically accosted them from the e-mails they sent around...they had conspired to charge me with a sexual harassment charge...but that was dropped when one of them was smart enough to realize I was not a company employee but a contractor....and ( knowing the low level of ethics I was dealing with) I never had any interface with these types unless another manager was with me as a witness ( this is standard procedure for quality and efficiency contractors anyway...you would not believe the vicious shit union slackers or organizational deadwood are capable of when they see someone auditing their output and productivity.)
Anyway to make a long story short, I was aware that the core of the lib=left types were ( surprisingly enough) some of the least productive and redundant employees in the organization....I also realize they were vicious enough to make serious false accusations that would impact my professional and personal credibility. So I went to the management with the productivity study and pointed to the low stats and got the go ahead to present them with concrete evidence of these idlers wasting/abusing company resources or property....then the company would deal with them ( union environment...one must have irrefutable proof of personal breech of employment contract.
I came up with a devious plot ( a plot so clever if you put a tail on it would be a weasel). The IT Manager agreed to do a complete email compilation, browser url dump and HD dump on the suspected freeloaders on the next coming Monday.
Meanwhile I had picked this day for a spot productivity audit of the hen house because it was the Monday after a local pro-firearms demonstration which I announced loudly to a friend of mine on Friday within earshot of the Bolshie hen house ( my euphemism for the 4 rows of office cubicles containing the Liberal/union activists/company slackers. I wore my cammo hunting pants, an NRA cap and a Reagan Tee shirt on "casual Friday" which I paraded in front of the hen house with bold impunity while announcing loudly to my coffee mate the other-worldly stupidity of the gun hater and the lack of ethics of any Leftist government that would disarm honest citizens while coddling violent criminals...and again, the pro-gun, anti-Liberal rally to take place on Sat.
Well, as you can imagine the gossip e-mails exploded...the office 5th columnists took the bait like the shallow meddling idiots they were...they must have spent the better part of the day e-mailing lefty chat groups, and anti-gun networks as well as panning between themselves to "storm" the "redneck rally" (which was completely fictional and nothing more than a figment of my fertile imagination). Some of them even came into the office on Sat to use their computer to call out the Bolshie troops to "storm" the "gun nut" demonstration.....wonder what they felt when they got there and no "gun nuts were to be found? ;-)
Monday the IT Manager and I did a disc/browser/e-mail dump of the core offenders and found they spent 6 hours out of an 8 hr day using computers for their personal political business/gossip/activism. We did a further archive search of the mail server and found that this behavior was long term and chronic with a yearly loss of about 59% of productivity from the 5 main ringleaders.
I handed in my report with a large smile and finished off my contract....last I heard the company fired the 5 main bolshies outright and waited until a "downsizing" to let another 20 of the laziest freeloaders go.
I guess the moral of this anecdote is that not all lefties/unionists are slackers but all slackers are unionist lefties...at least in this organization and it was not unique among medium sized companies with employee productivity problems.
Secondly, the activist left is so idealistically confused that it cannot distinguish between their duty as an employee/citizen/person and their self-image as a left wing activist and socialist revolutionary.
Sad weakness to have for presumed guardian/activists of the New Global socialist order.
